Alvarado

The Alvarado district was created in 1927 when land that was owned by Dwight B. Heard was subdivided into residential lots. The present day Heard Museum anchors one corner of the district at Central Avenue and Monte Vista Road. The large lots characterize Alvarado, as does the unique architecture of the thirty custom-designed homes built in the mid 1920's to 30's. In addition, olive and palm trees line the streets in one of the cities smallest, but most affluent historic districts.
